I always have to convert to 8 bits before it will work. psd's are tiffs but to Adobe specifications and a smaller size generally!!) If, though, you are enhancing a portrait or similar for printing and you want best quality, then 16 bit and a psd file (I can't see the point of tiff!! myself, I understand that. If it's for the web, then jpeg 8bits is good enough! I think it depends on your final outcome for the image. I have Adjust, Simplify, and Denoise and am using the trial version of Detail (soon to buy) and love all of them.

The question would come to bare, which Topaz software are you thinking about. Even on my 8gig core2 quad some pics take time to process. But thats just me.ДЄs to processing, it depends on the size of the photo. I have played with 8 and 16 bit TIF images, but my preference is usually JPEG.
